CREATIVE WRITING WORKSHOP

The Ghana Library Authority in collaboration with the Gamelian Books is organizing a creative writing workshop dubbed, “Teens Write in Ghana” which will benefit the youth in the country.

OBJECTIVES

  • To help participants to write creatively.
  • To improve on participant’s communication skills.
  • To build participant’s critical skills.
  • For students to employ creativity, and build their imaginative skills.
  • For students to learn how to be emotionally expressive and empathic towards others.
  • For students to arm themselves with skills to effectively and efficiently write and publish their own fictional and non-fictional literary pieces online.

SYNOPSIS

The Ghana Library Authority in collaboration with the Gamelian Books is organizing a creative writing workshop dubbed, “Teens Write in Ghana” which will benefit the youth in the country.

This workshop aims at targeting students (Green Track) who would be on vacation as a result of the GES new academic calendar which has affected t some students to be at home whilst others are in school. This intervention has become necessary since students can make good use of their time while at home before they get back to school.

AIM

The highly interactive Writing Workshop will provide a toolbox of skills for students to discover and develop their creative writing abilities.

ELIGIBILITY:

  • Must be a teenager.
  • Must be resident in Accra, Ghana.
  • Must be a SHS Green Track students.

TARGET GROUP:

  • SHS Green Track Students.
  • Anyone who loves to write.

CREATIVE WRITING WORKSHOP DETAILS

  • The deadline for registration is 30th April, 2021.
  • Three weeks intensive training from 4th May, 2021 to 21st May, 2021.
  • The training will be 4 times in a week.
  • Contact hours for a day is four (4) hours.
  • Access will be given to first come first served.
  • Venue for the training will be Accra Central Library.

COURSE CONTENT:

MODULE 1- Creative FICTION

Under this Module, students would acquire skills in two courses namely; poetry writing and short story writing.

In these areas of focus, student participants will take lessons on how to creatively write short stories from their everyday experiences and share the lessons learnt from such experiences. They will also be taught some insights on how to write and perform poems.

MODULE 2- Creative NON-FICTION

This Module will tackle lessons on writing creative non-fictional pieces. Students will be imparted with skills on two courses of interest namely; article writing and autobiographical writing.

These courses are to help the participants learn how to write about themselves and write about issues of general concern to humanity. They will be exposed to the tricks, tactics and techniques required to author creative factual pieces.

MODULE 3- Contemporary PUBLISHING

This Module is to expose students to online publishing. Students would take practical lessons on how to create an online blog, creatively write online content and publish them. Insights gained from this module would motivate participants to create an online presence for themselves whilst increasing their visibility on the global stage.
